Energy Prices Alongside Grocery Observations

Grocery observations and energy prices answer different questions. This companion points to the interactive energy tool and methodology so readers can compare regulated energy tariffs and fuel markers without treating them as grocery CPI.

The short version

Key findings

  • Energy pages cover fuel, cooking gas, electricity, and WASCO-related rates separately from product observations.
  • Energy figures should not be mixed into grocery change percentages as if they were the same series.

Where energy prices stand

Energy prices on this site come from official monthly figures, not from the retail observations used elsewhere in these reports. They move on a different clock: grocery prices are recorded on irregular dates, while these are published once a month and frequently hold at the same value for long stretches.

Local prices are official ECCB / Government of Saint Lucia monthly figures. They are published for the country as a whole and are not recorded from any retailer's pages, so they cannot be combined with the grocery observation set into a single index. The energy page shows how closely each series has followed world oil.

Evidence

What the data shows

  • Where to find energy-price analysis on this site.
  • That energy and grocery updates are complementary, not interchangeable.

Boundaries

What the data does not show

  • A single blended cost-of-living index.
  • Household energy bills for every tariff or usage profile.

Editorial standards

How this report was checked

  • Every headline figure is locked to the published export. The build compares the numbers in this report against the data files and refuses to publish the page if they disagree, so the text and the dataset cannot drift apart.
  • Interpretive wording is written and reviewed by a person before a report is approved for publication. Figures are computed, never hand-typed.
  • Reports are published after an update is added to the site. Updates are irregular rather than on a fixed weekly schedule, and every report states the dates it covers.
  • Corrections are made on this page rather than quietly replaced. If a figure is restated, the change is listed below with its date.

Revisions

  • Aug 17, 2026 Retitled from “Grocery Captures” to “Grocery Observations” so the wording matches the vocabulary used across the bulletins. The URL is unchanged.
